While I agree with all of the podcasters' opinions about how important it is to break Putin's back once and for all ... what then? Someone has to state out loud that Russians' track record on overthrowing lousy governments isn't so good. In 1918, they replaced the czars with something worse. In 1991, they replaced the Soviets with something worse. Now, if they get rid of Putin, will he just be replaced with something even worse? What comes AFTER him to make sure the west doesn't have to re-solve this g/d problem again in a few decades? I'm sick and tired of watching Russians having revolutions over and over that just result in a new coat of paint on the same old corrupt mobster autocracy.

What a great initiative! The interaction between Mr. Kasparov and Mr. Vindman is intriguing. Both already have an impressive track record, marked by courage. Democracy needs to be fought for indeed. Appeasement is bad policy when facing ruthless power-hungry dictators. Biden, Macron and Scholz have already made considerable missteps in this domain. The difference in opinion between Mr. Kasparov and Mr. Vindman on whether or not to implement a no fly zone is helpful for the debate as well. Spontaneously I would also be more inclined to introduce a no fly zone, but Mr. Vindman's arguments are worth taking into account. Greetings and much encouragement from Belgium and good luck with your new podcast.

I come from Croatia, a country that had to fight for its freedom and independence. Just like the Ukrainian people we were victims of propaganda from our neighbors, people that were our friends one day and murderous invaders the next. The world stood by then and watched the slaughter unfold as Croatian men, like my father and uncle, fought to protect it. Today, it's the Ukrainians that fight for freedom and democracy. And I can only hope that this time they will not be fighting alone and that the West will do WHATEVER it takes to help them. Including us in Croatia, a member state of both the EU and NATO.

We are all in this together whether we want to be or not. No silver bullets to instantly solve these issues, but there are all small things we can do. Follow Gary Kasparov, Bill Browder and Tom Nichols on Twitter to get the best information.

This was an excellent episode, providing a sharp assessment of the current status, the ultimate stakes, the very unlikely chance of a purely diplomatic solution, and the urgent, detailed next steps that must be taken immediately by the Biden administration.
